Ingabire Germaine is a playful and smart girl. Her favorite learning activities in class are coloring and math. Outside the classroom, Germaine can be seen racing with friends. Her favorite color is black, and she loves giraffes. Germaine lives with her parents and one older sister, Ujeneza Jesca, who also attends Hope Haven. Germaine comes from a poor family where parents have a small food stock in the village, and it is the only source of income. The mother serves in the Hope Haven farming fields as an alternative way of paying school fees. The family owns the simple mud house in which they live.
