Ishimwe Gustave is a quiet and clever boy. His favorite learning areas in class are literacy and drawing. Outside the classroom, Gustave can be see racing friends or playing with toys. His favorite color is purple and he loves elephants. Gustave has a younger sister who is still a baby. Both of his parents are present.  They are not educated. His father works random construction sites as either a builder or a porter according to whatever work is available. This is the only way he earns a living for the family. The mother is housewife and also serves in Hope Haven's farming fields as an alternative way of paying school fees for Gustave. The family stays in a small mud house which they rent. It is very far away from Hope Haven's campus, and the walk to and from school takes over an hour each direction.
