Thierry is a quiet boy. He enjoys drawing in class. He is the youngest in a family of six girls and three boys. Two of his siblings, Uwimpuhwe Devota and Mutabazi J. Baptista, attend Hope Haven. He comes from a very poor family. His parents rend land and cultivate it for food and income. The mother also serves in Hope Haven's farming fields as an alternative way of paying school fees. The family owns a small mud house.
