Niyomufasha Vanessa is a happy and smart girl. While in class, Vanessa likes learning health habits and drawing. Outside the classroom, Vanessa can be seen either racing with friends or swinging. Her favorite color is white, and she loves dogs. Vanessa stays with her parents, two older sisters,  and two older brothers. One of her sisters, Umukumburwa Naomi, also attends Hope Haven, while her other siblings attend nearby public schools. She comes from a needy family, although her father recently  began a security job at Hope Haven. He occasionally  works in Hope Haven fields as an alternate way of paying school fees.  Her mother is a housewife.
