While in class, Benitha enjoys learning numbers and finding words that rhyme. Outside of the classroom, Benitha can be seen running around with her friends and playing on the swings. She loves chickens. Benitha lives with her parents and one older sibling who attends a nearby public school. Benitha comes from a poor family. Her parents are peasants who rent land which they farm. The fruits and vegetables they grow provide a source of food for the family and a means of income. The mother also serves in Hope Haven’s farm field as a way of covering school fees. The family owns a small mud house, which they live in.
